Now, the property which is believed to have housed the first permanent waterfront home in Valentine’s exclusive Dilkera Avenue has been listed for the sale.

The home at No.61 is being marketed by LJ Hooker’s Paul Campbell and is set for auction on May 17 withbiddingexpected from$2 million.

It has its first open house today from 11am to 11.30am and interest is expected to be strong in the property being offered to market for the first time in over 90 years.

The land was first bought by confectioner Alf Plumridge and his wife Martha who had a shop in Nelson Street, Wallsend.

They built a house on the block in the late 1920s toearly 1930sand used it“more or less as a weekender at first”.

“There were no roads into Valentine back then andthey bought all the building supplies on a barge from Cockle Creek,” family member Chrissaid.

Chris’s grandparents William and Bertha Moorelived there before her parentsBruce and Hazel Moore extensively altered and rebuilt the home in the late 1970s. Hazel passed away in 2007 and Bruce last year, aged 93.

“The historical ties with all our past generations are always present and six generations of our family have enjoyed the pleasures of the lake at Valentine,” Chris said.

“Selling a house with such a long history is difficult for our family but we do hope that another family will have as much pleasure living on Lake Macquarie as we have had.”

Chris said the family has enjoyed all the benefits of a waterfront lifestyle, includingfishing, boating, sailing, windsurfing andpaddling.

The two-storey brick home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a double lock-up garage. It is positioned on a near level block over 600 square metres in size andhas a boatshed and shared jetty.

“There’s only about 78 waterfronts in Dilkera, so there’s not a lot of property there, so there will be a lot of activity on this one,” Mr Campbell said.

“They just never turn over, so there will be lots and lots of interest.”
